Counseling In Groups
Group counseling is a form of therapy, which posits that people benefit from shared experiences. Some groups focus on anger management, grief counseling or a specific goal like Weight loss or other addictive behaviors. A therapist usually manages the group, contributions from other members are considered valuable since all in the group share similar issues and goals.

Weight Loss Group
Being part of a group weight-loss program is proven to help you lose weight. The journal of "Eating and Weight Disorders" published a study which showed that participating in a 10-week program enabled participants to lose more weight than those who tried to lose weight alone. When you attend a group program, you will have an individual weigh-in, join in group discussions and share your weight-loss challenges. Your group will provide you accountability and support.
Group counseling sessions are generally held once a week and last one to two hours. You may need to devote additional time to writing in your diary. You will also be required to weigh yourself daily and group members with supportive feedback. Most group members enjoy the friendships they make as well as the support they gain in meeting their personal weight loss goals.

Psychotherapy Group
The broader concept of group therapy can be taken to include any helping process that takes place in a group, including support groups, skills training groups (such as anger management, mindfulness, relaxation training or social skills training), and psycho-education groups.
Psychotherapy groups are preselected by the therapist and typically last about 70-90 minutes. Group members work to express their own problems, feelings, ideas and reactions as freely and honestly as possible. Such exploration gives the group the important information needed to understand and help one another. Members learn not only to understand themselves and their own issues but also become "therapeutic helpers" for other members.
